What the 2026 Election Means for Commercial Real Estate in Congress and the States

On November 4, the election will be over. But for commercial real estate, the key question is: What do the results mean for our industry?
Join BOMA’s advocacy team for a discussion of how the 2026 election results will shape the policy environment for commercial real estate at both the federal and state levels. While neither President Trump nor data centers are on the ballot, both remain top-of-mind issues for voters and policymakers and will help shape the policy debates ahead. We’ll examine how changes in Congress, governors’ offices, and state legislatures could affect commercial real estate priorities and discuss what the results may mean for the lame-duck session before the 120th Congress convenes in January.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the political landscape, the risks and opportunities facing the industry, and how policymakers may affect commercial real estate in 2027 and beyond.

Learning Objectives — At the end of the session, participants will:

  • Explain how election outcomes may affect key commercial real estate policy issues.
  • Identify changes in congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative leadership that could influence the industry.
  • Assess potential political and regulatory risks to support informed discussions with organizational leadership.
  • Anticipate the 2027 policy outlook, including the challenges and opportunities it may present.
